A charity is encouraging you to discover the magic of walking this May. National Walking Month takes…
The Wildlife Trusts’ 30 Days Wild is back! Everyone is encouraged to connect to nature each day throughout June, whether it be eating al fresco, trying outdoor yoga or going on a snail safari. Over ten years, the flagship challenge has attracted more than three million participants. Will you join them this year?

A poll carried out to mark the event, revealed that over half of respondents noted they connect to nature by hearing bees buzz, listening to bird song or seeing and smelling wildflowers, all of which improves their health and wellbeing. Feedback from last year’s 30 Days Wild reinforces this. Three-quarters of people taking part said they noticed improvements in their mental health and wellbeing, with activities such as observing wildlife, engaging in mindful practices and spending time outdoors being particularly helpful.
“Connecting to the natural world is the first step to caring for it and playing a part in protecting it. It starts with the simple things – listening to morning birdsong, to hedgerows humming with life, or even just pausing to watch the clouds drift across the sky”, says Liz Bonnin, TV Presenter and President of the organisation. “This June, join us for #30DaysWild with The Wildlife Trusts, and fall back in love with nature.”

The organisation has set up a weekly series of themed activities, that will help you make the most of the natural world throughout the month:
Week one: Help wildlife where you live (1st – 8th June) – try leaving water and food out for wildlife, crafting homes for creatures, or growing wildlife-friendly plants.
Week two: Move like wildlife (9th – 15th June) – go for new woodland walks, local cycle rides or try out wildlife yoga, to find adventure in the everyday.
Week three: Learn about wildlife (16th – 22nd June) – find out more about the incredible wildlife around you – download a spotter guide and see how many creatures you can find, read a book about nature or join a wildlife talk.
Week four: Get creative with nature (23rd – 29th June) – create a wild picture with fallen objects or start a nature journal.
“I believe in the magic of nature. It heals, it inspires and reconnects us to what truly matters in life. If you’ve never taken part in 30 Days Wild before, this is your year. Fall back in love with the planet – one wild day at a time,” says Liz.
